The Program
Single Minded Saturday was among the first programs broadcast on KPFT, first airing March 7, 1970, the station's seventh day, and first Saturday, on the air. It was conceived as a day-long broadcast dedicated to a single topic.
That format would prove to be challenging to maintain and within a month, the program had shifted to an afternoon-only segment, eventually settling into a 7 PM-Midnight timeslot.
Along with every other program on KPFT, Single Minded Saturday did not air from May 12, 1970 until the first week in June, due to the first station bombing, although the May, 1970 folio did provide a full schedule of what might have been.
September, 1970 appears to be the final month for the program under that name, as the October, 1970 folio lists in its' place Schizoid Saturday.
