Tony Ulrich, scheduled to be a guest on a KPFT program, instead found himself in the DJ chair on his first visit to the station, as his host was one of staff members on strike in October, 1972.

Soon after, he was asked to host a program dedicated to Country and Bluegrass music, which quickly morphed into a Bluegrass only show. That inauspicious beginning marked the start of a long term home for Bluegrass on the FM dial.
